The firm's practice focuses on insurance coverage and claims-handling, including personal and commercial, liability, property, professional liability, excess and reinsurance matters.
Tollefson Bradley Mitchell & Melendi was founded in Dallas in 2006 with the goal of creating a firm dedicated to insurance law. Since then, the firm has grown to more than 20 lawyers focused on insurance coverage and insurance and extracontractual litigation, primarily representing carriers. The firm’s practice spans first- and third-party claims for all lines of insurance, including personal and commercial lines, liability, property, professional liability, excess, and reinsurance.
The firm provides advice and counsel on coverage, claims handling, and dispute resolution. In addition, the firm represents insurers in trials, appeals, and arbitration in state and federal courts. Members of the firm are active in the Texas Bar, the Dallas Bar Association, and national associations. We also participate in providing continuing education in insurance law and related matters. Partners Stephen Melendi and Matt Rigney are certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in insurance law, and Beth Bradley is certified in appellate law.
In March 2024, founding partner John Tollefson passed away in a tragic accident in Memphis. He was on the way to his mountain home in North Carolina, which brought him joy, with his beloved dog Oscar to meet his wife Bonnie, whom he loved and adored.
John was an accomplished insurance coverage lawyer who loved the law. The phrase “John had a case like that” is a running joke in the office because it was so often true. We will be forever grateful for John’s friendship and mentorship and miss him dearly.
